How To Beat High Blood Pressure with soybean

You may have heard of the "Portfolio Diet" which has been clinically accepted that increasing consumption of food containing soy may reduce levels of LDL cholesterol as much as some statin drugs.

Well, now it seems that soybeans have another gift of health quality: they also reduce blood pressure.

This latest finding is making quite a bit noise in medical circles and not without reason. Can you imagine how the two largest drug markets (cholesterol and blood pressure) would affected if the American Heart Association or the American College of Cardiology issued a statement saying that soybeans can reduce bad cholesterol and blood pressure control? Just think about it. But that's where it will stop, in your mind. With all the lobbying power of pharmaceutical giant, I seriously doubt that statement with a source of international reputation will never be released.

However, to date more than 40 clinical trials have clearly shown that soy protein can reduce cholesterol in men and women. The dose effective soy protein per day appears to range between 25 and 50 grams. Now Early studies show it is also useful in the fight against hypertension pressure.

Soy protein lowers blood pressure

In a report from the Annals of Internal Medicine (July 2005), it seems that the use of soybean protein dietary supplements may help reduce blood pressure.

Soy products were common in Asian diets for centuries, and soybeans and its derivatives have long been available in our stores local health and supermarkets. Research has shown that foods such as tofu and soymilk can reduce cholesterol levels and lower risk of cancer, diseases heart disease and osteoporosis. If one adds the ability to fight hypertension to the list of diseases and disorders that soybeans are able to fight, then we could just have a super deadly disease on our hands.

In the study covered by the Annals, a group of U.S. researchers Chinese and focused on 300 Chinese patients with hypertension. One group was and given 40gms of soy protein while the second group was given wheat-based carbohydrates.

The aim of the study was to examine the effect of supplementation with soy protein on blood pressure in people with pre-hypertension or Stage 1 hypertension. The results showed that protein supplementation soybean resulted in a reduction of systolic and diastolic. As such, increasing intake of soy protein may play a role important in the prevention and treatment of hypertension.

Researchers at Tulane University, New Orleans say it is unclear how soybean products might reduce blood pressure. One theory is that soy proteins widen blood vessels while by helping the body to do a better job of sugar in the blood processing.

In an accompanying editorial, Dr. Jeffrey A. Cutler and Dr. Eva Obarzanek National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, say the new study provides "another important link between blood pressure and intake macronutrient food, "but adds that further studies are needed before soybean supplements can be recommended to patients with high blood pressure.

Soybeans, soy milk, tofu, bean sprouts, meat substitutes, cookies and even soy cream ice are commonly available. Perhaps it is better that you do not wait for the big medical institutions to start singing the praises of soybeans. If you want an edge, perhaps the time has come to start making some changes to your diet. Throw in 40 minutes of exercise four times a week and your blood pressure will really take a dive.
